Most Indiana drivers are aware that big commercial trucks like tractor-trailers are something they’ll have to deal with nearly every time they take to the road. The sheer size of these trucks makes them dangerous, especially for motorists in smaller passenger vehicles. Although truck drivers have to complete extensive training and obtain special licenses, they are not exempt from making mistakes. Unfortunately, many truck accidents are the result of driver error.
Details of a recent fatal truck crash
Recently in Allen County, a driver was seriously injured and a passenger was killed in an accident involving a tractor-trailer. The accident happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Zubrick Road and Lafayette Center Road. According to police reports, a pickup truck was sitting at the red light at the intersection when it was suddenly rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.
Reports said the impact knocked both vehicles into a nearby ditch. Tragically, authorities said a passenger in the pickup truck was killed in the crash. Reportedly, the driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to a local hospital with critical injuries. There was no word on the condition of the tractor-trailer driver.
Options for victims and families
Because tractor-trailers are so big, any accident involving a passenger vehicle has a higher chance of being serious or deadly. Those in Indiana who suffer injuries or the loss of a dear loved one due to negligence in a truck accident have the right to speak with a seasoned attorney about their options for legal recourse. Damages from a successful lawsuit could be used to pay medical expenses and may also help ease the pain and suffering associated with these types of accidents.
