Driver hospitalized in accident involving two semi-trailers

On Behalf of | Dec 27, 2023 | PERSONAL INJURY (PLAINTIFF) - Truck Accidents

For Indiana motorists in passenger vehicles, it can be very intimidating and scary to travel alongside a huge semi-trailer. Since these trucks are so big, they need more room to maneuver, so motorists should always give them space and avoid driving in blind spots. However, truck drivers are sometimes hurried to make their deliveries, which can cause them to be less cautious or drive too fast. Unfortunately, truck accidents are more likely to be serious or fatal.

Truck accident details

Recently in Steuben County, a fiery accident involving two semi-trailers sent a driver to the hospital. The accident happened on Interstate 69 under the overpass for the eastbound lanes that lead to the I-80/90 toll plaza. Reports said the driver of a semi-trailer experienced an emergency and pulled his truck over to the right shoulder.

According to reports, the driver of an approaching semi-trailer failed to move over and crashed into the parked semi-trailer, causing the trailer of the parked truck to catch fire. Authorities said the driver of the parked truck was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the other semi-trailer was trapped in his cab, but sustained minor injuries, reports said. Reportedly, the northbound lanes of I-69 were shut down for about six hours while the accident was investigated and cleared.

Options for victims

When drivers in Indiana take to the road, they know that commercial trucks are just something they’ll have to deal with. Unfortunately, truck drivers are not always as careful as they should be. Those in Indiana who have suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones in truck accidents caused by negligence have options that can help them during the difficult time. By speaking with an attorney and filing a claim, victims and families could be awarded much-needed monetary damages.
