It is estimated that almost half of all traffic accidents happen at intersections. To prevent accidents, all drivers must stay focused, adhere to traffic laws and obey traffic lights and signage. Driver negligence is typically a factor in most intersection accidents.
Fatal intersection accident
Recently, two people were killed when their vehicle was hit at an Indiana intersection. The two-vehicle accident happened at night in West Lafayette at the intersection of Tippecanoe County Road 400 West and U.S. 52. Apparently, an SUV that was traveling north on County Road 400 West went through the intersection.
According to accident reports, the SUV T-boned a sedan that was headed west on U.S. 52. Tragically, authorities said the driver of the sedan and a passenger were killed in the crash. Reportedly, the driver of the SUV and another passenger in the sedan were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Legal options in the aftermath
Since so many vehicles cross paths at intersections, it only increases the odds of accidents occurring at these locations. Every year, thousands of people in Indiana and across the country suffer serious injuries in crashes at intersections, which leaves them needing ongoing medical treatment and time off from work in the aftermath. When a person is injured in car accidents caused by the negligence of another party, he or she has the right to speak with an attorney about their options for legal recourse. A successful lawsuit could result in compensation to replace lost wages and pay medical expenses.
