Indiana interstates are heavily utilized by tractor-trailers

On Behalf of | Apr 30, 2023 | PERSONAL INJURY (PLAINTIFF) - Truck Accidents

Large commercial trucks like tractor-trailers are common on interstates and major highways across Indiana. Tractor-trailers are massive and can be intimidating and dangerous for motorists in passenger vehicles. Any accident involving one of these big rigs is likely to be deadly.

Fatal truck accident details

Recently near Indianapolis, an accident involving two tractor-trailers killed one driver and injured another. The accident happened in the northbound lanes of Interstate 65 during the afternoon hours. According to accident reports, the driver of a southbound tractor-trailer drove through the median and into northbound traffic.

The southbound tractor-trailer crashed into a northbound rig. Tragically, authorities said one of the drivers was killed and the other was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Apparently, a passenger car was also impacted but the driver was not injured. Officers reported that Interstate 65 northbound was closed for several hours while the accident was investigated and cleared.

Options for legal recourse

Tractor-trailers can weigh up to 20 times more than passenger cars, so drivers need to be cautious when traveling near them. Although truck drivers are required to undergo hours of training, they can still make mistakes. Anyone in Indiana who has suffered injuries or the tragic loss of a loved one due to negligence in truck accidents has the right to speak with an attorney about legal recourse. A lawsuit, if successful, could supply victims and families with financial relief to help with medical expenses and other monetary losses.
