Large commercial trucks like tractor-trailers are vital when it comes to shipping goods, so they are often considered to be the backbone of the United States economy. The major highways and interstates that crisscross Indiana are heavily utilized by these big trucks. However, because tractor-trailers are so big and heavy, they can be dangerous to other motorists.
Serious accident involving a tractor-trailer
Recently near Elkhart, a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer left two motorists with injuries. The accident happened during the afternoon hours along the Indiana Toll Road near Exit 92. Apparently, an SUV was traveling in the right lane behind a tractor-trailer that was hauling steel coils when traffic slowed due to road construction. According to accident reports, a gray tractor-trailer failed to slow down, crashed into the rear of the SUV and pushed the SUV into a guardrail, causing extensive damage.
The gray tractor-trailer then crashed into the first tractor-trailer, knocking the steel coils loose. Reportedly, the gray semi suffered extensive damage to the cab, which entrapped the driver. Authorities said the driver of the SUV and the driver of the gray tractor-trailer were both taken to an area hospital with injuries.
Where can victims and families get help?
When a passenger vehicle gets into an accident with a large commercial truck like a tractor-trailer, the results can be catastrophic. Those in Indiana who have suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones due to negligence in truck accidents have the right to speak with an experienced attorney about taking legal action. A lawsuit, if successful, could result in much-needed and deserved compensation for victims and families.
